Obituary for Barbara Yvonne Dorsey

Barbara “Tootsie” Yvonne (Moody) Dorsey was born May 10, 1937 to Elbert S. and Rachel (Houston) Moody.

She attended Coleman Elementary School in Coleman Corner, MD 1st – 6th grade; and Henry Highland Garnett in Chestertown, MD 7th – 12th grade; she graduated June 1955.

Barbara married Charles William Dorsey October 7, 1961. They were blessed with two sons, Derwin L. Dorsey and Crawford E. Dorsey; four grandchildren, Aliyah, Cra’Sandra, Nakashia and Jasmine; two great grandchildren, Yarmaine and Keagan.

She was preceded in death by her Father; Mother; son, Derwin L. Dorsey; sister, Maxine (Moody) Hance; brother, Elbert C. Moody; two brothers as infants; and her Mother and Father-in law.

She joined First Union United Methodist Church in 1968. She was President & member of the Sanctuary Choir, Chairperson of the Membership Committee and member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Coleman Community Organization. She would help whenever needed if asked.

Barbara was known for her coconut cake and gingerbread. Barbara’s favorite Hymns were Rough Side of the Mountain; Oh, How Precious; Somebody Saved Me; and Precious Lord Take My Hand.

Barbara leaves to cherish her memory husband, Charles William Dorsey; son, Crawford Eugene Dorsey; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Asenath D. Walker, Virginia E. Perkins both of Wilmington, DE, and Diana (Charles) Flakes of Coleman, MD; brother, Derek C. Moody of Worton, MD; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Dorsey of Coleman, MD; sister-in-law, Joyce B. Moody of Chestertown, MD; two brothers-in-law, Charles Hance of Baltimore, MD and Wayne Gaines of Pittsburgh, PA; given brother, John Fenwick of Baltimore, MD; first cousin, Arlene Stewart of Coleman, MD; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
