Life Story for Stanley White

Stanley White
Obituary

Stanley James White, Jr., the beloved only child of Stanley, Sr. and Shirley White of Pocomoke, Maryland, was born in Salisbury, Maryland on January 22, 1964. At the age of fifty-two (52), he went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland, with his loving mom at his side. Stanley was just three (3) days from celebrating his 53rd birthday on earth, but God had another plan for him to begin celebrating his next birthday in heaven with Him.

Stanley received his formal education in the public schools of Somerset County, graduating from Washington High School in 1982. Until his health presented challenges for him, for a short time after graduation, Stanley served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged upon his release. For the past fourteen (14) years, Stanley was employed full-time in the Housekeeping department at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and part-time at Salisbury University (SU).

He began his Christian journey at John Wesley Church (Cottage Grove), where he was a member for most of his life. In later years, he fellowshipped with other churches, eventually becoming a member of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in Princess Anne, Maryland, under the leadership of the late Reverend David Miles. Stanley considered Reverend Miles not only his Pastor, but also a friend and mentor. There he was baptized and became a member of the St. Mary’s Usher Board.

Whether you referred to him as “Stant”, “Junior” or “Little Stant”, he was known for his uplifting smile that lit his whole face up and touched your heart at the same time. He loved watching sports (favorite team being the Baltimore Ravens) with his Pop—that was their joy! He had a collection of caps because he loved wearing them so much and there was hardly a time that you would see him that he was not wearing a cap. Stanley loved family gatherings and especially cooking on the grill. Cottage Grove members looked forward to him every year at picnic time.

Precious memories remain with: his wife, Kimberly; his devoted Mom and Pop, Stanley, Sr. and Shirley White; 4 children—Keyonna Patterson (Donte) of Parksville, MD, Jamar Copes of Clinton, MD, JKori Copes (Shonda) of Newport News, VA and Emmanuel White of Fruitland, MD; 2 children he raised from little ones, D.J. Thornton and Yakira Young; his grandchildren, Jadin, Khloe and Kennedi; a goddaughter, Kadejah Coulbourne; 4 step children—TaBrea, TaiJion, Taijah and Ashwanti; his aunts, Mary, Evelyn, Alverta and Beverly Ames, Esther Jones and Rosemary Davis; his uncles, Willie King (Donna), Robert Collier (Ethel), Gene Ames and Bobby Davis (Julane); mother-and father-in-law, William and Diane Sledge; brother-in-law, William Sledge, Jr.; sister-in-law, Shawla Sledge and a host of great aunt, great uncles, cousins, friends and church family.
