Barbara Lee Davis, lovingly known as Missionary Barbara or “Mom Barbara,” was born on March 10, 1939, at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore City, MD, through the union of the late Leroy and Irene Jones of Venton, Maryland. Mom Barbara departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.
Mom Barbara received her education at the Venton School in Somerset County, Maryland. To know her you would have never believed that she had only a ninth grade education. She worked on the East Coast from New Jersey to Maryland as a seamstress for a number of shirt factories, a crab picker for many of the shanties here on the Eastern Shore and answering service for the Fook’s Funeral Services. Mom Barbara retired and supported her husband’s business, and helped create the Theophilus Maintenance and Construction Company.
Mom Barbara attended Grace United Methodist Church in Venton, Maryland at a very early age. She loved church and was a part of many ministries including John Wesley United Methodist Church of Deal Island, MD, Mount Hope AME Church of Princess Anne, MD, New Jerusalem Church of Cambridge, MD, Greater Chief Cornerstone Ministry of Cambridge, MD and where she will always be considered a lifetime member, New Psalmist Non-Denominational Church of Westover, MD, where she supported her husband and was a member. She supported her husband, who is one of the musicians, at the Trinity Faith Christian Center of Fruitland, MD. Mom Barbara was also the cofounder of Master’s Touch sound systems, another part of the Theophilus Outreach Ministry.
Mom Barbara could change your sadness into joy because of the Christ that was in her. She had only one goal for anyone she met and that was for you to get saved and stay saved through the blood of Jesus Christ. She believed that all should and must be baptized through Jesus Christ. This was her walk as a missionary.
Mom Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 18 years, Emerson Davis of Deal Island, MD; 2 daughters, Althea White of Salisbury, MD and Felecia Jones of Fruitland, MD; a devoted son-in-law, Milton Maddox of Princess Anne, MD; 3 sons-in-law, Andrea of Baltimore, MD, Terry of Salisbury, MD and Alvin of Salisbury, MD; 2 sisters, Martha Byron of Orlando Florida and Evelyn Free of Patterson, New Jersey; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and host of cousins, nieces, nephews and you, the abundance of distant family and friends.
Mom Barbara was preceded in death by her mother and father, Leroy and Irene Jones; 3 daughters, Cathy Snowden, Doreen Jackson and Izetta Tilghman; 2 sons, Anthony (Tony) Tilghman and Pastor Andrew Tilghman; a granddaughter Antoinette Snowden; and a great granddaughter, Kayla Jones.
