William Edward Green departed this life to be with the Lord on July 14, 2017. He was born October 6, 1938, in Chester, Maryland, to the late Augstine Green, Sr. and Jessie Roane Green. He was one of the nine children born to Jessie and Augustine. William was 78 years old.
William attended public schools in Queen Anne’s County. He worked as a waterman, handyman, landscaper, and a store associate at the Safeway Food Store in Chester, Maryland. He was so proud of his various jobs, and he definitely liked getting paid. William was a conscientious worker who loved helping people. It was evident that his positive work ethic was appreciated because people always commented on how hard he worked and how helpful he was to them.
William lived in Chester, Maryland, most of his life. Unfortunately, when William was in his late forties, he had a stroke, which caused major damage to the left side of his body. He had to leave his home in Chester and go to a full-time rehabilitation and nursing care facility in Centreville, Maryland. After a short time in there, William’s loving sister Vernetta and brother-in-law, Charles invited him to move in with them, which made William very happy. William and Vernetta enjoyed their time together. They would attend church and family gatherings. He loved going out to eat, and they both loved crab cakes. Vernetta was devoted to his well-being and his overall care. She made sure he was able to attend, participate, and do well in the programs that he loved at the Adult Daycare program on Kent Island, as well as the ones in Grasonville, Centerville, Denton, and Easton. At these facilities he made friends, demonstrated many skills, became less shy and more talkative. William was known to lead the morning devotions, a task he did with seriousness and pride. He demonstrated the ability to sing, dance, tell jokes, do artwork, and become a dominoes expert. He would often come home from his day and discuss what happened with Vernetta. She looked forward to his reflections and stories. He would bring her candies, cookies and gifts that he had won at Bingo. William enjoyed his time with his family and friends. He loved the attention he received from his brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In additions to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerome, Joseph, and Augustine Green; sisters, Bessie Green, Mary Green, Nettie Green Butler, and Julia Green Pauls; and bother-in-law, Charles E. Murray.
He leaves to cherish precious memories, his loving sister, Vernetta Murray; brother-in-law, Warren Butler; special nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
