Obituary for Albert Guessford

Albert Guessford
Albert Lawrence Guessford passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Delaware Hospice, Inc., in Milford, Delaware, after bravely battling with several medical conditions for four months. Al was born January 5, 1939 and was raised in Delaware by his uncle and aunt, Bob and Lib Daniels.

Al proudly served in the United States Coast Guard for 10 years before returning home to Delaware. Following his military service, he decided to take a chance as an entrepreneur and start a construction business in the mid 1960's and employed what seemed like half the youth of Smyrna, Delaware. Throughout his life he worked hard and became an over the road truck driver, retiring in 1999.

Al was forever working with his hands and never had a shortage of projects, whether it was building houses or engines. He had a brief, but illustrious stock car racing career in the Delaware Dirt Track circuit, accumulating numerous trophies and awards. He was known widely as the man who could build an engine that would last forever. His love of Nascar will be remembered long after this is read. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed crabbing with his family. He also loved throwing outdoor parties and BBQ's, no matter what the occasion.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years Brenda Lee Guessford; his brothers, Willard "Bucky" L. Guessford, Jr., Richard "Herby" Guessford, Eugene "Freddy" Guessford; and sister Patricia "Patsy" Nickerson.

Al is survived by two sons, Lenard Schonert and Daniel Guessford; step-daughter, Shelley Harvey; granddaughters; Kristin Guessford, Lacey Guessford, Julia Schonert; grandsons, Joshua Guessford, Travis Guessford, Zachary Guessford, Caleb Guessford, Brayden Kelly; great-grand-daughter, Aleesia Guessford; brothers; Davey Staats, Jim Guessford; and sisters, Doris Blair, Betty Jane Bryant, Nancy Shetzler, and Virginia Lee Baker.

Lovingly Submitted,
The Family
