Cleo Madeline Stanley of Georgetown, Delaware, departed this life on Thursday, January 11, 2018. She was 87 years old.
On Friday, April 4, 1930, she was born to the late William and Lula Cornish. Her early education began at Sharptown Colored School and Laurel Elementary School. She left school early to care for her siblings.
Prior to working for Stockley Center for over twenty-eight years, Cleo worked various domestic jobs. In 1991 she retired from Stockley Center and worked for over twenty years as a caregiver for clients whom she loved, just like her family.
Cleo will be remembered as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend. She loved spending time with her family and could always be found in the kitchen cooking for her family and friends. Cleo was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs, Maryland. She was a member of Queen of Sheba Chapter #4, Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation of Laurel, Delaware. She enjoyed fellowshipping with the Saints and being in church.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, William and Lula, Cornish, her brothers, Hollis Cornish, Otis Cornish, Kenneth Cornish, Cleophas Cornish, Wilson Cornish, James Cornish, Eugene Cornish, Russell Cornish, Carroll Cornish and Thomas Cornish; sisters, Rosella West, Jane Cornish and Pearl Smiley; her husband, Delmar Richard Nevada Stanley; beloved son, Rayfield Cornish; daughter, Joan Ellison; and granddaughter, Ashley Cornish.
She leaves to cherish her memory, seven children, Kenneth Stanley, Sr. (Judy) of Seaford, DE, Cynthia Morales of Georgetown, DE, Sharon Hall (Keith) of Dacula, GA, Cleophas Stanley of Laurel, DE; Craig Stanley, Sr., (Nancy) of Georgetown, DE; Gregory Stanley, Sr., (Martella) of Bear, DE and Carol Lacorn (Tom) of Wilmington, DE; twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; one sister, Cora Bell Jones (Theodore, Sr.) of Delmar, DE and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
