Sylvia Jeanessa Taylor was born on August 23, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Irvin Johns and Juanita Randall Webster, and departed this life on March 14, 2018. The early years of her life were spent in Maryland. She started school in Tuckahoe and Ridgely in a one room schoolhouse located on Holly Road. She also spent a short time at Denton Primary School. Year 1927/1928 she returned to Philadelphia and completed her education at Frankford Philadelphia High School in 1938.
Sylvia became the wife of Grayson Nathaniel Taylor on July 26, 1954, upon returning to Maryland, and made it her permanent home. She joined Trinity A.M.E. Church in 1955, under Reverend Hinesley, and became a lifelong member. She was a Missionary and an usher. She also worked as head of the kitchen for many years. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 121:1
She worked at various jobs and retired from Campbell Soup Company in 1982, after 21 years of service.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Irvin W. Johns, Jr., Russell L Johns, Benjamin Johns, Winfield Johns, Vernon Johns, Arthur Webster, and Beau Webster; sisters Anna W Savage and Hilda Johns; two step-daughters, Janice Pulido and Patricia Taylor.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty Colbert and Delores Johns; two step-grandsons, Bruce Simpson and Christen Taylor from California; and very special nieces Lorraine Allen and Michelle Hunter; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and others relatives.
